COVID-19 Disaster Payment

Services Australia will be offering a lump-sum payment for eligible people who have lost work and income due to a Queensland COVID-19 public health order. You will need to meet all eligibility rules to be entitled to the payment.

The eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • you are an Australian resident or hold a visa which gives you the right to work in Australia

  • you are 17 years or older

  • you did not receive an income support payment, Education Allowance, or ABSTUDY Living Allowance during the payment period.

  • you did not receive the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment, a state or territory pandemic payment, or a state small business payment for the same period

  • you lost income and did not have any appropriate paid leave entitlements.

  • you lived in, worked from, or visited a Commonwealth-declared COVID-19 hotspot which is subject to a state restricted movement order

  • you have been unable to earn your usual income of 8 hours or more, or a full day’s work because you were in the COVID-19 hotspot and were subject to restricted movement.

HOW MUCH YOU CAN CLAIM

The amount of COVID-19 disaster payment you are eligible for depends on your situation.

How much you get depends on all of the following:

  • the location of the health order

  • the period you are claiming for

  • the hours of work you lost.

HOW TO CLAIM

Australian residents must claim online. To claim online, you need a myGov account linked to Centrelink.

If you don’t have a myGov account, you’ll need to create one.

2021 COVID-19 BUSINESS SUPPORT GRANTS FOR LOCKDOWN-IMPACTED BUSINESSES IN QUEENSLAND

Your business may be eligible for financial support through the 2021 COVID-19 Business Support Grants. $5,000 grants will be made available to small and medium businesses across Queensland affected by the COVID-19 lockdown which commenced on Saturday 31 July 2021.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The grant provides support to employing small and medium businesses across Queensland impacted by the South East Queensland lockdown which commenced on 31 July 2021. Your business does not have to be located in South East Queensland, but you must have experienced at least a 30% reduction in turnover as a result of the lockdown.

Grants are also available for large businesses in the hospitality and tourism sector operating in the 11 local government areas in the lockdown, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.

Small and medium businesses are defined as having:

  • a turnover of more than $75,000 per annum

  • annual payroll in Queensland of up to $10 million.

Local government areas subject to lockdown restrictions are:

  • Brisbane City Council

  • Gold Coast City Council

  • Ipswich City Council

  • Lockyer Valley Regional Council

  • Logan City Council

  • Moreton Bay Regional Council

  • Noosa Shire Council

  • Redland City Council

  • Scenic Rim Regional Council

  • Somerset Regional Council

  • Sunshine Coast Regional Council.

More information on eligibility criteria will be available in the coming days.

How to apply

Applications will open in mid-August.

You will need to apply online with supporting evidence.  Grants will be processed in the order they are received. You will be paid the grant funds within 2 weeks of being notified that your application has been approved.
